The TalentTeam Yield System

A simple system for developing new employees into productive long-term resources.

TalentTeam is a Utah-based recruiting and staffing company. We created the Yield System as a lightweight, monthly operating discipline that helps our customers develop contingent employees into productive, long-term contributors to the company's profit-making machinery.

Employees should become profitable long-term resources for the business, not just an ongoing addition to payroll cost.

The first few months of employment often determine whether a new employee becomes a productive long-term contributor. During that period, supervisors spend time onboarding, retraining, answering questions, correcting mistakes, and helping new employees learn the operation.

When turnover happens early, the investment resets. Recruiting starts over. Training starts over. Supervisor time is reinvested. Productivity slows while another new employee learns the job. Over time, constant churn can make it difficult for workgroups to stabilize and mature together.

The Yield System was designed to help interrupt that cycle.

01 — How it works

A short virtual review, once a month.

Once each month, supervisors and HR leadership participate in a short virtual review meeting designed to minimize disruption to the operation.

TalentTeam provides for every monthly meeting
  • Department-sorted employee lists
  • A simple supervisor rating guide
  • Meeting coordination
  • Tracking and reporting support

Supervisors assign a simple monthly 1–10 score for each contingent employee based on two broad categories:

Category One

The Knack

Is the employee learning the job, improving, and moving toward reliable independent productivity?

Category Two

The Fit

Is the employee becoming a reliable, coachable, positive part of the workgroup?

The process is intentionally practical and lightweight. Supervisors spend very little time on it. TalentTeam manages most of the structure, tracking, coordination, and reporting.

03 — Why it works

Why the conversations matter.

The value of the Yield System is not just the score itself. The recurring conversations help leadership identify which employees are developing into productive long-term contributors.

Supervisors begin thinking more intentionally about:

  • What a productive resource looks like
  • Which employees are becoming long-term contributors
  • Which employees may need additional coaching or support
  • How workgroup stability affects productivity and morale
  • How supervisors influence employee development and retention

Over time, these conversations help create stronger workgroups, better supervisor alignment, lower turnover, and more informed contingent conversion decisions.

04 — The decision

Why the conversion decision matters.

For many companies, the contingent period eventually leads to a conversion decision. The Yield System helps leadership make those decisions more intentionally.

Instead of converting employees simply because the operation needs headcount, the Yield System helps leadership determine whether contingent employees are developing into:

  • Productive
  • Reliable
  • Coachable
  • Engaged
  • Operationally valuable

The goal is not simply to fill positions. The goal is to strengthen the permanent workforce with employees who demonstrate reliability, coachability, engagement, and operational value over time.

Not every employee should become part of the permanent team. The Yield System helps identify which employees are becoming positive long-term contributors and which employees are likely to remain ongoing turnover, productivity, and supervisory challenges.

The process also creates accountability for TalentTeam. The data helps identify whether contingent employees are developing successfully and whether the staffing relationship is producing the operational outcomes leadership expects.

It's about more than headcount.
